The Secretary of Infrastructure and Mobility, Isidre Gavín, today present at the last meeting of 2018 of the Strategic Table at the Airport of Andorra – La Seu has announced the good results of the installation, which closed this November with 30% more operations than last year. Thus, if in November last year there were 3,380 operations in November this year there has been 4,411, this means 30% more.
The board fo the Strategic Table has also agreed to ask the State to accelerate the procedures to istall the IRF system, which allows aircraft to operate with a GPS system and, therefore, land under conditions of less visibility. Aeroports de Catalunya initiated the procedures to obtain this system two and a half years ago and is still waiting for the State’s approval. “Having the GPS would allow to operate with more regular forecasts in both summer and winter season,” said the Secretary of Infrastructures and Mobility.
The other requirement of the Table to the State is to allow operations of aircraft from outside the Schengen area. “The works to have the airport ready for the Non-Schengen flights are done since 2016, and we are waiting for this to be resolved to the State,” explained Gavín. “We have to take advantage of the potential of the airport and from the Generalitat, what we do is work intensely to have the best commercial airport,” he said.
