The CDRA agreed on December 13, 2018, the renewal of the new agreement between the four institutions. The Secretary of Infrastructure and Mobility of the Department of Territory and Sustainability of the Generalitat of Catalonia and Chairman of the Committee of Development of Air Routes of Barcelona (BARDC), Isidre Gavín; Director of international economic promotion of the City Council of Barcelona, Mr. Mario Rubert; The President of the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services and Navigation of Barcelona, Miquel Valls, and the director of the Airport of Barcelona - El Prat, Sonia Corrochano, agree to the renewal of the BARDC agreement for 4 years more after 13 years.
The 4 institutions have closed a period where 17 intercontinental destinations have been acomplished. This means it has multiplied by 8 the volume of intercontinental direct passengers. The key to success is, above all, good coordination between institutions and the unique window functionality to attract airlines. In this sense, these results consolidate the BARDC model as a reference point for cooperation between various institutions and a European benchmark.
The foundational objectives are still fully in force and many actions have been carried out for each of these objectives:
- Creation of long-distance links with strategic destinations
- Develop loyalty actions for long-haul companies
- Facilitate the establishment of new long-distance links or frequencies
- Improved connectivity in Barcelona
- Promote synergies with other large infrastructures near the airport
- Promote air cargo
- New Objective: promote the air transport and travel sector
In this new stage, now more than ever, some goals take more strength. For example, loyalty actions that help us to add frequencies by an airline or get it to fly year-round and not seasonally, are key objectives to consolidate the current offer.
